What is Causing My Snoring Problem?

Snoring occurs when the airflow through the nose and mouth becomes turbulent due to obstruction caused by a variety of reasons. The turbulent air then begins to produce the vibrations that lead to the sounds of snoring. This can interrupt your rest, your partner’s rest, or even lead to serious health conditions.

What is Sleep Apnea?

OSA or Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a sleep disorder that causes you to occasionally stop breathing while asleep. This can lead to headaches in the morning, loss of sex drive, or a reduction in mental function. It can also lead to more serious conditions such as high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, and a higher risk of stroke or heart attack.

Suffering from sleep apnea does not only affect you but also affects your partner. Your snoring and waking up can cause them to wake up. This can put an otherwise avoidable strain on your relationships.

How Is Sleep Apnea and Snoring Treated?

We can often trace snoring and sleep apnea back to a nasal or sinus problem. You could be suffering from swelling due to allergies, nasal polyps, or a sinusitis obstruction. Changes in the tongue or throat as well as abnormalities can contribute to snoring and sleep apnea.

In order to correctly diagnose the causes of your sleep apnea and snoring you need to be evaluated by an ENT specialist, such as Dr. Driskill or Dr. Donaldson. Dr. Driskill and Dr. Donaldson will work closely with you in order to evaluate your situation and to come up with a treatment plan that is unique to you.
