Broken Nose Symptoms

Oftentimes mild nose fractures go undiagnosed and untreated. This can lead to further issues so it is important to know the symptoms of a broken nose. If you know the symptoms you will know when to get treatment right away.

  • Crooked Nose
  • Nosebleed
  • Bruising
  • Swelling
  • Tenderness
  • Nasal Blockage

Swelling may not occur until one or two hours after the break depending on how severe it is. Our ENT doctor usually only needs to perform a physical examination with a nasal speculum to diagnose a broken nose. Other imaging tests aren't usually required.

Nasal Fracture Repair

Our ENT specialists can treat your broken nose better than a regular doctor can especially if you have deformation and restricted airflow. Normally, the nose can be realigned right away if you seek medical attention rapidly enough and it can be done surgically or non-surgically. All blood clots also need to be discovered and drained to avoid permanent deformity.

If you are suffering from severe swelling our specialist may ask you to wait a few days for the swelling to go down before they can determine the best way to treat the break. If the nose is not realigned soon after the break occurs you may need to undergo a rhinoplasty to correct the shape of the nose. The nasal septum may also be repaired during a septorhinoplasty.
